We had a blast playing at Stereo on Saturday – our favourite Glasgow venue. Thanks to all the folk that came down (200 of you!) that helped to raise close on £2k for Beatson Cancer Charity .Tonight’s set featured an Impromptu “Ziggy Stardust” as a birthday gift from the band to our Neil. Thanks also to Trash Tapes and Riverside Ghosts for their excellent support sets.
Keep readingADHD – A-Trane, Berlin – 21 March 2025
I had wanted to see the amazing Icelandic jazz quarter ADHD for many years. They tour mainly in Europe, not UK … so a few days in Berlin seemed like a great idea! So glad I went – such spectacular music in a cool venue and the guys were really great to chat to afterwards. “Welcome to Jazz Club – ‘Wunderbar!’”
Keep readingEmiliana Torrini – Assai Instore, Glasgow – 2 March 2025
So glad I travelled through to see the Glasgow film festival showing of Emiliana’s lovely film ‘The Extraordinary Miss Flower’. It is a great peice of cinema with a fabulous story including the music from her new album of the same title. Best of all we were treated to an intimate acoustic performance of a few songs at the nearby Assai Records store. Nice to chat to Chris (Man Of Moon) too. I’ve always loved Emiliana’s music. It means a lot to me, ‘Fisherman’s Woman’ being an all time favourite album. Been all over to see her many times. But…

We had a sensational time at La Belle Angele last night for our Twixtmas gig. A brilliant crowd of familiar and new faces , thank you all for coming out to watch us play. We had a blast. Thanks also to the excellent The Standard Grades and Big Lanes for their support sets, and not forgetting Matt, Brian and all the staff at La Belle – what a great venue! See you all in 2025! Whole set video below … Enjoy!

Keep readingLauren Mayberry – Assai Records, Edinburgh – 9 Dec 2024
An ‘In-store’ appearance to promote Lauren’s new solo album ‘Vicious Creature’ and upcoming tour. Sang a few songs and was interviewed by Vic Galloway. I’m a big fan of CHVRCHES so was delighted to see her. But I’m not so sure her solo songs are my cup of tea. Still might go see her at La Belle Angele. Attended by George

So glad we took a punt to go see the unkown to us Silvia Konstance Costan and Viktor L. Crux from Barcelona, but I had a feeling they would be something special … proved right! I love a bit of industrial me and with lots of other synth and techno experimentation thrown in they blasted us with non stop energy without a single pause. Out of breath dancing trying to keep up .. Incredible scenes! Attended by George, Andy & Douglas https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/dame-area/2024/sneaky-petes-edinburgh-scotland-4b53070a.html

We had a super time playing our 2nd “Rattlesnakes” show at Stereo in Glasgow last week. Cheers to everyone that came down too see us, it’s a great venue and we really appreciated the reaction to the songs. It’s a shame that we perhaps won’t play some of the Lloyd Cole And The Commotions songs again, but we think we did the album justice! Thanks also to Rhona Young for guesting on a few songs.

Thanks to everyone that came out for our first “Lloyd Cole – Rattlesnakes 40th Anniversary” show on Sunday. It was great fun and we think we did justice to this brilliant album. Another sell out show so be quick if you want to see us do it all again at Stereo in Glasgow on Thursday 24 October. Thanks also to Julie from The Standard Grades for guesting on BV’s for a few songs. @stumaconie mentioned on BBC Radio 6 Music that he’d like to come along and see us – you’re on the guest list for Glasgow Stuart ! Keep readingCardiacs – SWG3, Glasgow – 11 Oct 2024
Picked up fellow ‘pondie’ Kenny for drive through and got chatting to many more excited for the latest episode of the ‘Sing To Tim’ reunion shows in memory of the late great Tim Smith. This was a pretty similar set to when I ‘experienced’ this last year in Leeds, but every bit as amazing and appreciated by so many devoted fans, deprived of live Cardiacs for so long. Brilliant band, assembled from so many past band members, led so enthusiastically by the livewire Jon Poole. Also great to see my bass hero Jim Smith looking and sounding so well. I…
Keep readingPlantoid – Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh – 6 Sept 2024
Really enjoyed what I have seen/heard about Plantoid, and I was not dissapointed … they’re brilliant! Jazzy, Proggy, Mathy, Shoegazey (whatever else they can imagine)… a heady melding of genres, but all works beautifully to my mind and they clearly love playing with such skill and variety. Magic. Must see again soon! Attended by George
Keep readingThe Postcards – Slay, Glasgow – 30 Aug 2024
We had a blast playing in Glasgow tonight ! Thanks to Bowie Blinders for asking us along, and for the very lovely audience as well. Slay is a great venue and we hope to be back soon.
Keep readingSleater Kinney – SWG3, Glasgow – 27 Aug 2024
I’m such a massive fan! After that magnificent evening at Barrowlands last time in Glasgow, SWG3 seemed a bit low key, but so many super fans made a big atmosphere in a relatively small room for such an important band. Last time was just before Covid struck and the world is a different place now. But Sleater Kinney were back with the same line-up and though songs from new album ‘Little Rope’ were out in force, they didn’t let us down with a storming set of their very best. I got talking with random people down front from USA and…
Keep readingBat For Lashes – Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh – 23 Aug 2024
Never miss Natasha Khan when she comes to town so this special Edinburgh Festival event was a must. Got great seats down the front too. Arriving on stage she started with some solo interpretive dance, and with some poetry reading later this made the show a bit different though that’s not really my cup of tea! Joined by Laura Groves on keys it was also great to see Charlotte Hatherley on guitars and bass. Her latest album ‘The Dream of Delphi’, inspired by her daughter comprised much of the set, but we did get a smattering of old favourites including…
Keep readingThe Sensational David Bowie Tribute Band – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 16 Aug 2024

Keep readingThomas Dolby – Saint Luke’s, Glasgow – 14 Aug 2024
Been a big fan of TDs music since early 80s when bought first albums and saw the ‘Flat Earth’ tour show at the Queen’s Hall in 84. He had mainly retired, but saw him again in 2011. Another gap, but back touring again! Great support from the very entertaining Martin McAloon bravely playing (and largely pulling off) solo his brother Paddy’s masterpiece Prefab Sprout compositions. Enjoyed that. Now a professor at Baltimore University, he used elements of his music technology teaching in the show to great effect, live streaming his DAW and merging in video in clever ways … impressed!…
Keep readingThe Postcards – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 9 Aug 2024
We had a fabulous time last Friday at La Belle Angèle, supporting the effervescent Dirty Harry Edinburgh at another sell out gig! Cheers to everyone who came along including lots of new faces from the folk we spoke to after the show. A few very new songs played including “How Soon Is Now” which is a tricky structure to play but we think we nailed it….. Onwards and upwards , news of November and December shows (East and West) to follow soon !

Keep readingGirl Scout – Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh – 22 May 2024
I enjoyed the few songs I had seen and heard from Sweden’s Girl Scout, so was intrigued enough to head out to Sneaky’s for this one. From Dutch support band Marathon and Girls Scout combined use of massed Fender offset guitars (6) I could tell this was maximum indie music night! And though I liked Girl Scout’s sound and songs … all seemed a bit samey for me unfortunately. So I enjoyed the night but it could have been more varied and interesting . Attended by George
Keep readingHis Lordship – Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh – 17 May 2024
His Lordship are for me the undisputed champions of raw, unprocessed and unfiltered, simple but pure rock ‘n roll. Delivered with passion, swagger and great musicianship. Loved them since first seen at the caves last year and was excited that they took their UK tour to the comparatively small Cabaret Voltaire … we expected fireworks and were not disappointed! Arrived early so we could get right to the front to witness the incendiary performance of main man James Walbourne. So close we were right in James’s jettisoned sweat and spittle zone! See us in the video below … Awesome! An…
Keep readingCardiacs Family – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds – 5 May 2024
It took news of the tragic and untimely death of composer and band leader Tim Smith in 2020 for me to discover the amazing and to some people bizarre music of Cardiacs. I’ve become a huge fan since but they had not played live since 2007 due to Tim’s debilitating illness but a growing ‘family’ of friends and fans have kept the Cardiacs flame alive. 3 very special ‘reunion’ shows in England had been arranged to celebrate his life, entitled ‘Sing To Tim’, and the Cardiacs fanbase (or ‘the pond’ as known) were so ecstatic they sold out immediately! Only…
Keep readingPom Poko – The Caves, Edinburgh – 21 April 2024
Another Sunday evening when I’m not sure I can be bothered gigging, but as always happens I was so glad I got up for it and went along! An all round great occasion and top value for money with 3 quality bands. I wasn’t sure who would be on last in this co-headline show between Personal Trainer from The Netherlands and Norway’s Pom Poko. But I think Pom Poko on last worked perfectly. The Itch first up were cool but anticipation for the 7 piece Personal Trainer was high following their impressive previous shows in Edinburgh. And I really enjoyed…
Keep readingNearly Dan – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 19 April 2024
I’ve loved Steely Dan since I got their their ‘Katy Lied’ album in 1975! I was so lucky to see the real band with Donald Fagan and Walter Becker back in 2009. RIP Walter. But Nearly Dan have been doing their tribute show for 27 years! I don’t know how I’ve missed them until now but finally did thanks to Ali. And I really enjoyed their 2 sets including many of my favourite songs. Very well played and faithfully reproduced, delivered by top quality musicians. For me missing just a wee bit of emotional engagement but that’s nit-picking … very…
Keep readingDry Cleaning – St Lukes, Glasgow – 5 April 2024
I try to never miss one of my favourite bands when they come to Scotland so Glasgow it was in the lovely St Luke’s. Turns out this tour was a bit unusual, showcasing all of the songs from their many and early EPs which they have recently re-released. A great trip down memory lane with lots of songs not heard live for a while that I still love! Followed of course by a selection of ‘greatest hits’. I got right to the front as usual to bounce and sing/speak along with Florence in what was a pretty relaxed and light…
Keep readingEXTC – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 28 March 2024
XTC just about tops the list of my all time favourite bands. I got to see them live only once in 1981 shortly before they stopped live performances … for ever! I was also lucky enough to be at a part reforming as TC&I in 2019 in Swindon. And also attended the first public show in Swindon just before lockdown in 2020 of EXTC, basically original XTC drummer Terry Chambers … and friends! Having one original member does slightly elevate the band above a mere tribute, but the band has morphed from a 5 piece set up to 3 piece…
Keep readingThe Wandering Hearts – Queens Hall, Edinburgh- 26 March
A bit of a speculative purchase of tickets for me and Karen. I didn’t know much about The Wandering Hearts other than they were highly recommended by friends, but I liked the few videos I had seen. I do love that kind of Americana with female vocal harmonies and modern arrangements, a bit like First Aid Kit, and The Wandering Hearts seems to be the UKs best version of all that. And very good they were too. I actually prefer how they sound with a stripped back set-up of just 3 vocals of Chess, Tara and AJ with just an…
Keep readingBuzzard Buzzard Buzzard – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 22 March 2024
Buzzard x3 caught my ear a while ago and when this popped up on my radar at short notice I thought I’d take a chance, and I’m glad I did! An intimate show at the smaller Voodoo Rooms Speakeasy and an enthusiastic audience, and me, were right entertained by some inventive and passionate indie rock from the Welsh quartet. Frontman Tom Rees is a blur of non stop movement and banter … some man! Attended by George
Keep readingSing In The City – Usher Hall, Edinburgh – 16 March 2024
I’m so lucky to play with Hanley & The Baird band and get to play some amazing shows in support of the Sing In The City choirs. Especially 2 shows in one day at the wonderful Usher Hall. I will never get over the joy (and terror) of performing on such a big stage with audiences of thousands. Love it! All went really well with perfectly managed logistics organising over 300 singers in each show. I was exhausted but happy by the end! Thanks to all involved in putting on such a special day … Kirsty and Annette masterminding the…
Keep readingGilla Band – The Caves, Edinburgh – 3 March 2024
I saw these guys play an amazing set at Summerhall in 2017 when they were called ‘Girl Band’. Really enjoyed that one and their music is still as described back then … ‘avant-garde noise turbulence’! The Caves though has areas where sound might not be that great, and stuck under the arch … that was me, and I didn’t really connect with some of their new ‘songs’. Still pretty unique and impressive but missed the mark a little for me this time. Attended by George & Douglas
Keep readingMØAA – Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh – 18 Feb 2024
With a name spelled MØAA you might think Scandinavian? But no, leader Jancy Rae Buffington is from Seattle, and she told me there is no odd pronunciation of MØAA, it’s just like moa! I digress, from a banging performance at a packed and appreciative Sneaky Pete’s. 3 acts starting with the first time I ever saw a Clarsach (Scottish Harp) played at Sneaky’s! DARA DUBH have a unique sound I’ll investigate more, having tried to learn the Clarsach (a bit) myself. Hayley Beavis introduced her new duo ‘Both Hands’ with her also unique style of performance. Headliners MØAA deliver a…
Keep readingMidnight Ambulance – Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh – 3 Feb 2024
A sold out Sneaky Pete’s was a buzz of anticipation for this show and Edinburgh’s own Midnight Abulance did not let us down. Amelia & Fraser don’t do ordinary … melodies that don’t go where you expect, piled up with left field harmonies, inventive layered guitar parts, drums to match. Yes the 2 artists heavily rely on backing tracks, but all felt appropriate, natural and not contrived. Impressed I was. Bought the t-shirt! Don’t miss them. Attended by George & Andy
Keep readingSkating Polly – The Mash House, Edinburgh – 27 Jan 2024
Can’t believe it’s over 6 years since I first saw Skating Polly at Broadcast in Glagow. This was their first time in Edinburgh since then. I think they enjoyed being in the city as much as I, and an enthusistic Mash House crowd enjoyed their set! Attended by George
Keep readingUpcoming Sing In The City Usher Hall Shows
Delighted to say I will be playing in the Hanley & The Baird band with the amazing Sing In The City choirs at the Usher Hall on 16 March 24. Demand is so high that for the first time we will be performing 2 shows, matinee and evening! Matinee is heading to sell out soon and evening shortly after, so still time to get tickets via link below. https://www.usherhall.co.uk/whats-on/sing-city-hanley-and-baird-0
Keep readingThen Comes Silence – Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh – 10 Jan 2024
2 Swedish bands with Gothy, Post-Punk styling .. Then Comes Silence with guitars but first up Agent Side Grinder with synths. Not been to Cabaret Voltaire for many years. It’s cool but not that big with a small stage, but the bands and a fair proportion of Edinburgh’s Goth population didn’t seem to mind. Sound was a bit quiet surprisingly, both bands admirable intensity could have been put across louder! And both bands were interesting and tight. I enjoyed both though not my normal cup of tea. Attended by George & Andy
Keep readingBig Country – Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh – 30 Dec 2024
The last time I saw Big Country was that amazing night at The Playhouse on Hogmanay in 1984! Support band that night was White China, and full circle 39 years later, White China opened this show. Just as tight and lively as last time. Good stuff! I’d not managed to catch any of Big Country’s many reunion tours, but exactly like with The Skids, I was glad I did and the long gap made the experience all the more memorable. This tour was all about the 40th anniversary of their debut album ‘The Crossing. The set majored on that album…
Keep readingThe Postcards – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 29 Dec 2023
We had a blast playing The Voodoo Rooms at ‘Twixtmas’. What a fabulous crowd. Thanks for making this a sell-out show! We’ve played some great gigs in 2023, but this was far the best. Thanks to our pals, The Standard Grades and The Letting Go, for super support sets. See you for more great nights in 2024. xx The Postcards.
Keep readingThe Sensational David Bowie Tribute Band – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 9 Dec 2024
Our now traditional Christmas Bowie fest with Sensational John and the gang. Superb as always and a delight to see Kenny and Claire so happy seeing the band for the first time. A great night as always. ‘Love on ya!’ Attended by George, Karen, Kenny & Claire

Thanks to all at Whistlebinkies who went mad for our impromptu show at the weekend. Great fun had by all. Grab your ticket for our Twixtmas extravaganza at The Voodoo Rooms on Friday 29th December while you can!
Keep readingThe Letting Go – Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh – 24 Nov 2024
I’m very happy and proud of my Postcards bandmates and friends Dave and Neil showcasing their new original songs with their new band. With Chris on bass it’s 3/5 of The Postcards, but a quite different sound augmented by Dave on Trumpet and Johnny on drums. This was their first gig for a year and they were understandably nervous but they played great. Well set for recording and releasing songs and more gigging in 2024. Bravo! Attended by George & Karen
Keep readingCara Dillon – Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh – 23 Nov 2024
I try not to miss Cara when in town, and as usual, this was a lovely occasion in a lovely setting. Beautiful singing and perfect accompaniment as always. But this was a bit different featuring Cara’s spoken word elements alongside sung parts. She has a new book and album,’Coming Home’, including her stories and poems. Like some others I was intrigued but a bit unsure. What a pleasant and special surprise though, it all worked brilliantly and was very emotional. Especially her family stories from Northern Ireland. Very touching and beautifully realised with lots of her gentle humour. Superb! Attended…
Keep readingSleater-Kinney – The Roundhouse, London – 10 Nov 2023
Sleater-Kinney’s only UK gig in 2023, so I just had to jump on a train and so glad I did. Their new album has not landed yet and they only played a couple of it’s new songs, so we were treated to a good selection from their extensive back catalogue, which was a much better idea than lots of new, unheard stuff. I love Corin and Carrie so much, but not been moved by much from their last 2 albums … but with so many other historic classics delivered it still made for a great night. I was also happy…
Keep readingPale Blue Eyes – The Mash House, Edinburgh – 9 Nov 2023
My 2nd time seeing Pale Blue Eyes. Last time at Sneaky Pete’s was a gig of the year candidate! And again, PBE smashed it in a packed Mash House. They have developed their sound and songs a bit more, and it’s easy to see their progress and growing confidence. Magic. Don’t miss them! Attended by George, Andy, Jude & Chris
Keep readingDEADLETTER – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 1 Nov 2023
I was impressed when I saw DEADLETTER at Great Eastern and a number of pals joined me in expecting something special again. We were not disappointed! From Yorkshire via London, now a 6 piece outfit, they have honed their act by constant gigging and are in full control of their music …and their audience, who sang along and answered all the calls and moves. Including all kneeling down at the point Zac descended to the floor in the audience! Their music is a cool variation on standard 20s post-punk … intense and moody, with serious messages, light on melody but…
Keep readingYoung Fathers – Usher Hall, Edinburgh – 31 Oct 2023
I was blown away by Young Fathers at their album launch gig back in February but this was an altogether bigger affair with extra drummer and singers on the big stage in the big hall with the big home town crowd. And I think the audience were really impressed and supportive of their home town champions! First of two sell out nights at the Usher Hall. And though I loved the performance and the music, as often at the Usher Hall, the boomy, overly subby sound interfered with enjoyment for much of the set ‘til improved a bit half way…
Keep readingKaren’s Retirement – Parliament Hall, Edinburgh – 6 Oct 2023
The very momentous occasion of my wife Karen Glen’s retirement from her role as Building Manager for the Scottish Supreme Courts and Parliament House. A lovely reception was held in the historic Parliament Hall, the most special part of the building complex Karen has been taking great care of for nearly all of her 29 years in the Scottish Courts Service. We were delighted to see so many of her colleagues, family and good friends there to wish her good luck in retirement. And what an extra special treat it was to be entertained by 4 songs from the wonderful…
Keep readingThe Postcards – The Bungalow, Paisley – 30 Sept 2023
Thanks to all at the amazing Bungalow who sang and danced along to our set to end the charity music day in support of the brilliant ACCORD Hospice.
Keep readingDo Nothing – Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh – 24 Sept 2023
I’ve seen Do Nothing a couple of times before and really like their sardonic and more interesting take instead of the myriad cliched indie/post-punk bands out there. Not so sure about new album songs but live they are always a great experience. And a packed and boiling hot Sneaky Pete’s crowd, like me, thought they were worthy of much laudation! Attended by George
Keep readingThe Postcards – Scarecrow Festival, Bothwell – 9 Sept 2023
A perfect festival day out at Bothwell Scarecrow Festival today. A sunny day, a big crowd and loads of families enjoying themselves. A 9 song set with back to back bangers and most of us were pleased to see “Somewhere In My Heart” make a rare appearance:) Thanks to all the Festival folk for looking after us, especially Jim, Stevie and the brilliant sound crew. We hope to return one day 🙂
Keep readingBC Camplight – Summerhall, Edinburgh – 25 Aug 2023
Love Brian Christinzio and his awesome band. Always catch him when in Edinburgh and not disappointed this time too. He’s building up a following thanks to more exposure, lots of 6 music types here including us, and is now getting the recognition and success his clever songs and powerful performances deserve. Attended by George, Andy & Jude
Keep readingAmyl & The Sniffers – O2 Academy, Edinburgh – 17 Aug 2023
I think everyone should experience the boundless energy and enthusiasm of Amyl & The Sniffers at least once! I love their attitude and Amy’s livewire, non-stop bouncing, as well as smart lyrics and audience engagement. I like a bit of straight up punk too, but this set is a bit limited and samey to my mind. Felt longer than it actually was, though a packed, sweaty crowd went understandably mental. So, once is enough for me! Support band Cable Ties were great, I enjoyed them the most, must see again. Attended by George, Andy & Douglas
Keep readingDevo – O2 Academy, Edinburgh – 17 Aug 2023
Hard to believe Devo are still doing it, let alone as brilliantly as they did tonight given their very advanced years. This is the last ever tour, celebrating 50 years of ‘de-evolution’. Ticket prices were insane, which explained the half full venue, but I just had to go. And I’m so glad I did. All the classics and my favourite songs delivered with just as much quality and energy as ever, especially by stalwarts Mark, Gerry and Bob 1. How do they do it? Well done spud boys, enjoy your retirement! Attended by George
Keep readingFirst Aid Kit – O2 Academy, Edinburgh – 16 Aug 2023
My 10th time seeing the brilliant Klara & Johanna, and though I saw effectively the same show late last year, I just had to catch them in Edinburgh again. Attended by George
Keep readingThe Postcards – Merchants Hall, Edinburgh – 14 Aug 2023
We had a blast playing at The ‘A Club’ at Merchants Hall in Edinburgh last night. Our first all seater/table service show! Two sets of indie bangers and, if you look closely, a walkabout singer…. Thanks to our followers, friends and family who came to see us! We are taking a wee break and then back for 2 gigs in the west in September!
Keep readingThe Postcards – The Glad Cafe, Glasgow – 12 Aug 2023
It was great to be back at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow last night. Someone must have turned on the heating as it was unbelievably hot! Being in Glasgow we had to play Orange Juice’s ‘Dying Day’ which was from the Postcards Records era from where we took our name. £600 raised for The RISE Collective , thanks to everyone that came down. Cheers also to John Alexander and The Standard Grades – 90s Acoustic Cover Band for playing 2 great sets as well!
Keep readingThe Postcards / Dirty Harry – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 29 July 2023
Thanks to so many who came along and sang their hearts out at La Belle Angele on Saturday, esp. John Scott of Upstage Photography for great pics. Biggest thanks and love to Dirty Harry Edinburgh for having us support them. See us again soon at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow on 12 Aug (announcing special guests asap!) and The ‘A Club’ at Merchants Hall in Edinburgh on 14 Aug. xx The Postcards
Keep readingThe Postcards – Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh – 26 July 2023
We had great fun at our midnight gig at Whistlebinkies last night ! A few of the band had an pre-gig nap but we were on top form, thanks to everyone that came down. We debuted new songs by Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello, definitely getting a late 70s New Wave vibe just now!
Keep readingNell Bryden, Hanley & The Baird + The Aw Blacks – The Green, Kinross – 20 June 2023
What a lovely evening with the brilliant Nell Bryden and wonderful support from my friends Hanley & The Baird and the Aw Blacks choir! Attended by George
Keep readingThe Scars – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 17 June 2023
I remember seeing The Scars a few times back in 78/79 and their first single “Horrorshow”/”Adult/ery” blew me away and remains a favourite of mine ever since. Recently caught up again with guitarist Paul Research and was intrigued to see how the reformed band would work out with original players and Tam Dean Burn on vocals. This came immediately after watching Scotland football team’s amazing win in Norway from the Roseburn bar, so I was very much the worse for wear, but managed along to catch the start of their set. Paul and the band sounded just great but Tam…
Keep readingCHVRCHES – Barrowlands, Glasgow – 11 June 2023
A bit over a year since I saw CHVRCHES with Mhairi at the Corn Exchange. They have been touring the Screen Violence album and show for the best part of 2 years and I think this was the last venue show before a last few festivals and a massive well earned rest! Lots of successful fund raising achieved to for the tremendous Refuweegee charity. Great idea and very well done. This was just as slick and exciting as last time, a well oiled machine of a show, but having a home town crowd in a packed Barrowland Ballroom did make…
Keep readingThe Postcards – The Ferry, Glasgow – 20 May 2023
Thanks to all at The Ferry, The Spiders on Mars for the support slot and all the dancers and singers who came see us. We love The Ferry and hope to be back there soon. Special thanks to Alan Borland for the great pics
Keep readingThe Postcards – Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh – 14 May 2023
Our first public gig of the year at @whistlebinkies on Sunday. Why did we leave it so long? 8 new songs including tunes by bands we’ve never played before like New Order, House of Love, Magazine and The Lotus Eaters. Always great fun to play there and thanks to the many folk that came down to see us!

Great fun at the Sing In The City Awards party 2023. We do nights out like no others! 350 members, our biggest award party yet, 14 awards, Hanley and the Baird band, what a night!
Keep readingQuasi – Broadcast, Glasgow – 3 May 2023
Being such a massive fan of Sleater-Kinney it’s inexplicable that I never managed to see them until after drummer Janet Weiss left the band. She is my drums hero and I thought I might never get to see her play … until now. So excited to be right at the front to experience her and Sam Coombes deliver a powerhouse set to a packed and enthusiastic Glasgow crowd. I managed to climb down off Cloud 9 just in time for a quick chat, selfie and poster purchase afterwards. What a night. Life (almost) complete. Wonderful! Attended by George & Ian
Keep readingHis Lordship – The Caves, Edinburgh – 2 April 2023
His Lordship play pure, unadulterated Rock’n’Roll. Straightforward but skilful, raucous but intelligent, cool but hot and sweaty. Always brilliant! Guitarist James Walbourne and drummer Kristoffer Sonne, joined by bassist Dave Page. What a glorious reminder of how much I love the 3 piece rock band! Awesome. Attended by George, Andy & Douglas
Keep readingHanley & The Baird – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 24 March 2023
Really enjoyed our set and the whole night at our Voodoo Rooms show, brilliantly supported by Paul Gilbody and Ewan Patrick. Can’t wait to return!
Keep readingLust For Life – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 5 March 2023
What a strange but cool experience! This show was originally billed as Tony Fox Sales and friends touring the classic Iggy Pop album ’Lust For Life’ on it’s 45 years anniversary. Tony and brother Hunt Sales played on the album. Tony became unavailable and at the last minute Glen Matlock took over on bass, which made me happy to see a real live Sex Pistol join a stellar band including drums hero Clem Burke and guitar hero Kevin Armstrong. And with Katie Puckrick singing no-one really knew what to expect! Honourable mention first to supports Walker And The Brotherhood of…
Keep readingThe Postcards – The Counting House, Edinburgh – 18 Feb 2023
Our first performance of 2023 on Saturday night saw us play an extra special show for ‘Pretty In Pink’ Donna’s birthday. Such a lovely crowd and Donna got to play air guitar for the encore. We played some old favourites, some of which will be heading to the subs bench as we’ve got plenty of new songs on the way. We’ve got 3 extra special gigs booked already for 2023, Mums the word on those for now but you won’t want to miss them….!!
Keep readingDry Cleaning – Barrowlands, Glasgow – 17 Feb 2023
My third time seeing Dry Cleaning and one of my favourite bands just get better and better. I’ve not listened to new album ‘Stumpwork’ that much yet, but it’s growing on me and the wonderful ‘Gary Ashby’ might have been my top song of 2022! And what a brilliant set with the best new songs and the best of my favourite bangers from the past. Their confidence and different personalities really shine now. Superb playing and contrasting bouncing about from Tom and Lewis v Florence statue like with telling facial expressions only. I was right at the front so got…
Keep readingYoung Fathers – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 10 Feb 2023
Young Fathers are a significant force in modern music and I’m really proud of the international impact of three guys from Edinburgh. But I have always manged to just miss going to see them, ’til now. And to be honest their music has never been quite my cup of tea though I had heard they were amazing live. I can confirm that’s absolutely correct! This event was the album launch show for their new album ‘Heavy Heavy’ and though I enjoyed my sneak preview listens they didn’t major on those songs only and included plenty of past favourites. Much appreciated…
Keep readingPale Blue Eyes – Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh – 8 Feb 2023
What a great night, gig of the year contender already! Just an amazing bill of cool bands. A sold out crowd got there especially early to catch young Edinburgh band No Windows who were very good and a name to watch out for. We had no expectations about next act Hector Gannet, but as soon as they started everyone commented how they were blown away by the tremendous sound so we could clearly hear such interesting songs played brilliantly. A lovely surprise. Pale Blue Eyes had a job to follow that, but succesfully took the good vibes even higher with…
Keep readingThe Musical Box – Usher Hall, Edinburgh – 3 Feb 2023
I know it’s a tribute act, but Andy and I had to go and see them play just about our favourite ever album, all 4 sides of ‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’ by Genesis from 1975. I really enjoyed the whole experience. The Musical Box have been re-creating Genesis for nearly 30 years (not with the same line up) and have made a succesful career out of it. They licenced the ability to re-create the entire ‘Lamb ..’ tour including costumes and slide show and are supported and endorsed by Genesis members. They play, sing and act the whole…
Keep readingThe Cool Greenhouse – Harmonium, Edinburgh – 22 Jan 2023
A quirky but interesting band are The Cool Greenhouse. A key element is the witty spoken poetry lyrics of front-man Tom Greenhouse. Unfortunately the sound wasn’t good enough to enable me to hear many of those nice words which I thought defeated much of the pupose and pissed me off! I was much more entertained by the mad stylings and songs of support act Cod O’Donnell who I will definitely look out for more now. Cool small (very small) venue. Attended by George & Andy
Keep readingThe Joy Hotel – Mash House, Edinburgh – 21 Jan 2023
I’ve liked the ambitious songs and performances of The Joy Hotel since first seeing them at Great Eastern and also at Hidden Door festivals. My first time seeing them headline. Seems they are a bit polarising and ‘marmite’ though with my gig pals evenly split between like and dislike with no loves or even hates. I still think they are pretty good! Attended by George
Keep readingThe Postcards – The Bungalow, Paisley – 31 Dec 2022
Our last gig of 2022 and first of 2023 at The Bungalow in Paisley last night. It was an absolute blast to play 2 sets before and after midnight. Huge thanks to all those who came along, and danced & sang all night. Another sell out gig. And thanks to Unkle Remus for great support. 2022 was a fun year, thanks to all those who turned out to watch us from Arran to Glasgow to Edinburgh (and Paisley). Happy New Year and we’ll see you again sometime, somewhere.
Keep readingThe Postcards – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 29 Dec 2022
A storming sell out gig at The Voodoo Rooms. Thanks to everyone that came along and made it a really special night for the band. Cheers to Jeremy Thoms for a great support set and for spinning the tunes before and after. We debuted Song 2 by Blur, and brought back a few old favourites. (Thanks to Julia and Ellen for pics)
Keep readingHanley & The Baird / Braw – Room 2, Glasgow- 23 Dec 2022
Driving Home for Christmas – thank you to Braw for inviting us through to perform at Room 2 tonight! Merry Christmas to you all from us all and we will see you in 2023
Keep readingSensational David Bowie Tribute Band – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 10 Dec 2022
Our now traditional Christmas Bowie fest with the sensational John and the gang. 2 sets of all the best of Bowie, with a few ‘oddities’ as well. The best Bowie tribute band by far. Love on ya! Attended by George & Karen
Keep readingFirst Aid Kit – Academy, Glasgow – 28 Nov 2022
Only my 9th time seeing the wonderful First Ait Kit since that amazing first time at Sneaky Pete’s in 2010. They’ve come such a long way and gathered many new fans including Stuart who we were delighted to bring along and notice his non-stop beaming smile! I admit to not being blown away by their latest album, but live that doesn’t matter much and like the rest of the packed audience we were carried along on the joyous wave of love and beautiful harmonies. Attended by George, Karen and Stuart https://youtu.be/Zd4DgiwoSCg https://youtu.be/PzBUXi8eXl0
Keep readingThe Postcards – Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh – 27 Nov 2022
Another great night Whistlebinkies on Sunday. 24 songs and a lost voice. Cheers to everyone that came down, to Chris on the sound desk and the folk from Blackburn.
Keep readingThe Postcards – Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh – 20 Nov 2022
First gig for 2 months last night at the always wonderful Whistlebinkies. Cheers to Jeremy Thoms for the super band pic. We debuted 4 new songs ; A Forest and Boys Don’t Cry, Enola Gay and Felicity. Thanks to everyone who danced and came and said hello. Sorry to the guys asking us to play Teenage Kicks and Oasis. We’re not that kind of band!
Keep readingAnaïs Mitchell – Newcastle University – 13 Nov 2022
I’d been waiting many years for a new original songs album from Anaïs and though her recent eponymous release is nice, I don’t think it reaches the heights of her incredible earlier works. Still, live is a different prospect, and with a solid band joining her, so it transpired. Such a beautiful singer, guitarist and person, always gracious and endearing. I sang along with the ones I knew well even though the set was dominated by songs from the new album. Such a varied career she has had including the musical ‘Hadestown’, ‘Child Ballads’ project and ‘supergroup’ Bonny Light Horseman,…
Keep readingHanley & The Baird + Aw Blacks – Queens Hall, Edinburgh – 12 Nov 2022
This was a very special occasion for me and all involved. This was the first time Kirsty Baird and Annette Hanley had presented a show designed to showcase songs featuring both the Hanley & The Baird band and also the amazing Sing In The City Aw Blacks choir (about 50/50). Well what a great idea, and it worked brilliantly with the choir providing spine tingling backing vocals to band songs and the band rocking out in support of the Aw Blacks amazing 4 part harmonies, medleys and dance moves. In such a beautiful, iconic venue too. An excited and appreciative…
Keep readingSorry – Stereo, Glasgow – 28 Oct 2022
I really love the music of Sorry but the pandemic interrupted seeing them since the first time at Sneaky Pete’s just before first lockdown. Asha and Louis have kept up creating great songs though, all on show tonight. Just magic! Attended by George https://youtu.be/_8PYHTXZDCk
Keep readingRosalie Cunningham – Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – 24 Oct 2022
Bought tickets for this ages ago and was unfortunately re-arranged … worth waiting for though to see the brilliant Rosalie and her spectacular band again. Could write more, but the great review by John Scott on HiFi Pig below goes into super detail! Attended by George, Jan & Andy https://youtu.be/LUEjDo3MJ8c https://youtu.be/PHAO6_LBrUs
Keep readingThe Skids – La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 23 Sept 2022
I’ve missed out on all the Skids and Big Country re-union tours of recent years, but succumbed to this one, and really glad I did. Richard Jobson is the only original member on show of the Skids and his support band The Armoury Show. But the bands are great and he carries it off perfectly with great energy, passion and humour. I sang along at the top of my voice, amazed I could still remember most of the words to my favourite Skids classics from 40 years ago! Attended by George https://youtu.be/e5UugQKA-E0
Keep readingThe Postcards – Bothwell Scarecrow Festival – 17 Sept 2022
We had a blast playing at Bothwell Scarecrow Festival yesterday. Our first outdoor show as part of a community fun day. Ta to everyone that came along and also to Stevie for looking after us. No soundcheck and a last minute set change! Pro as!
Keep readingBlood Wizard – Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh – 14 Sept 2022
I absolutely loved Kagoule, Cai Burn’s previous band. Since they sadly split he has changed direction slightly with his new project Blood Wizard. He has a very distinct songwriting style though so the songs and playing were fine by me and this show was very good. Will watch his developments with great interest. Attended by George & Andy https://youtu.be/XLPvkIkpcBU
Keep readingThe Postcards & Dirty Harry – Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh – 21 Aug 2022
Such a fantastic audience in fine singing voice at THE LIQUID ROOMS (Official) on Sunday! We had a blast playing for you. Thanks to the brilliant Dirty Harry Edinburgh for being so kind to us and to all of you who helped and supported us. See you again soon. xx The Postcards (Thanks so much to Mark of Waysted Photography and Steve (shotbyagunn photography) for pics. Much appreciated.) https://youtu.be/0QJtsGGbs2E
Keep readingJames Yorkston – Summerhall, Edinburgh – 19 Aug 2022
I’ve enjoyed a bit of James music but not followed closely until I noticed this show with a stellar band including Phil Selway from Radiohead and especially Nina Persson from The Cardigans … just had to go, and very glad I did! Didn’t know many of the songs but that didn’t matter when the performances were so excellent. Would have liked more of Nina’s singing, but not really her show, so fair enough. Well done James, enjoyed that! Attended by George https://youtu.be/pS9K83C55Ys
